Veronesi self-cleaning centrifuges are used after the extraction process of citrus juice to adjust the pulp content in the finished juice, depending on the process and market needs. The wide range of Veronesi self-cleaning clarifiers, expressly designed to operate on citrus juice, using high-grade stainless steel for the best corrosion resistance, gives the opportunity to choose the optimum solution to meet any capacity and clarification performance requirements. Besides, the automatic fast partial solid discharge, managed by a PLC to easily modify and control the solid discharge operations, guarantees a continuous separation process with a minimum loss of product.

Feed: The slurry is fed through a fixed central pipe into the distributor located in the scroll. The product is then accelerated smoothly and passes through feed ports in the scroll to the bowl.

Bowl: Separation takes place in the conical cylindrical bowl which rotates at a preset speed specific to the separation task. The slurry rotates in the bowl at the design speed and forms a concentric layer around the inside of the bowl. The solids contained in the slurry are deposited against the bowl wall under the influence of centrifugal force. Years of experience and research enable us to provide you with a decanter with the optimum bowl length and cone angle to achieve even the most difficult separation requirements.

Scroll: The scroll rotates at a differential speed to that of the bowl and conveys the separated solids in the direction of the conical end of the scroll. The length of time the solids remain in the bowl is an important factor in determining the dry solids contents of the discharge. The residence time can be adjusted by changing the differential speed of the scroll to provide optimum separation for the particular slurry. If the physical properties of the slurry change, the centrifuges can be modified to suit by supplying a different scroll design or by modifying the existing scroll. Scrolls may be concurrent or countercurrent, single flight or multiple flights depending on the application and process requirements.

Solids Discharge: The separated solids are discharged through openings at the conical end of the bowl. They enter the stationary solids housing and are discharged down the outlet chute.

Weir: While the liquid is being clarified, it flows to the cylindrical end of the bowl and overflows the adjustable weir plates which determine the depth of the pond. The clarified liquid is decanted into a fixed centrate chamber and discharged by gravity. The easily adjusted precision weir plates are used in all our gravity discharge decanters.

Three-Phase Separation: Our 2-phase decanter centrifuge can also be supplied as a 3-phase decanter. Flottweg Tricanter centrifuges allows two liquid phases with different specific gravities to be separated while dewatering solids.

The two liquids are separated in the liquid zone (two phase) and decanted through separate discharge systems to prevent cross-contamination. There is generally a choice as to whether a phase is discharged under pressure or by gravity. Our adjustable paring disc, a standard feature on all of our 3-phase machines, provides a pressure discharge for the heavy phase. If the density difference or the quantity of the two phases changes, the paring disc allows the interface between the two liquid phases to be optimally adjusted during operation to ensure maximum purity of the liquid phases.

Paring Disc: The clarified liquid can also be decanted with a paring disc and discharged from the bowl under pressure in a closed system. This eliminates the need for a discharge pump. Our unique, adjustable paring disc is an engineering refinement which permits quick and precise variable adjustment of the pond depth during operation to accommodate new conditions and still achieve process goals.

Material: Materials range from carbon steel to high nickel steel, depending on the demands of the process and chemical environment. Standard designs are built of high grade stainless steel for all product contact surfaces.

Bearings: A special system of bearings provides long service life and exceptional reliability. A central lubrication system supplies either oil or grease to critical bearings, depending on the model and application.

The Tricanter centrifuge is the latest advancement of our decanter centrifuge to three phase separation. It replaces two conventional separation systems to provide cost-effective results. The Tricanter machine achieves a three-phase separation between two immiscible liquids of different specific gravities and solids in one process step. The two liquids are separated in the liquid zone of the bowl and decanted though separate discharge systems to prevent cross-contamination. The light phase "floating on top" of the heavy phase discharges over a weir by gravity. The heavy phase is "scooped up" by the pairing disc (centripetal pump impeller) and discharged under pressure. If the density difference or volume of the phases change, the pairing disc can be adjusted during operation for process flexibility and control. Hygienic and gas-tight models are available and a variety of drives (VFD, gear and hydraulic).

Belt presses for fruit and vegetable processing: Flottweg belt presses have been specifically designed for the fruit-juice industry. They feature efficient design and easy access for cleaning and operation with minimum personnel requirements. High-grade stainless steel guarantees cleanliness, corrosion-resistance and long service life. Precise adjustment of mash feed and variable belt speed provide optimum flexibility to accommodate new conditions while achieving maximum yield.

The belt press must be loaded evenly when processing vegetable mashes. A distributing roller with separate drive is fitted to the feed box for loading the press with vegetables.

Operation: The feed box distributes the processed mash uniformly over the lower belt. The wedge zone curves downwards and gently releases large amounts of juice to form a mash cake ready for pressing. An L-profile roller extracts the juice in the pressing zone and ensures that the juice flows away quickly on both sides. A series of press rollers with decreasing diameters results in increase of compressive and shear forces exerted and raise the juice yield to 84%.

While the juice flows quickly to the central collecting pan, the pomace is scraped from the belts by adjustable plastic scrapers and can be conveyed away easily. Both belts are cleaned by high-pressure jets and the washwater is recycled to cut down wastewater volume.

Cleaning: After a production cycle, the Flottweg belt press can be cleaned simply and easily. The drain to the central collecting pan s closed and the pan is filled with cleaning solution. The Belts and L-profile rollers are completely immersed in the cleaning solution. Cleaning solution is also sprayed onto the belts by high-pressure jets. After about half an hour of circulation, and rinsing with fresh water, your Flottweg belt press is ready for another day. Special sanitary requirements have been met, when vegetables are processed. These presses are equipped with an incorporated CIP system.

Complete Processing Lines: Flottweg supplies belt press systems for cider production and medium-sized fruit-juice production facilities.
